Media Release Australian Championships Update

The National Darts Championship of Australia rolls into Townsville on July 24 when the top players from around Australia compete at the Murray Sports Complex, Townsville.

Competiton starts on July 28 with the inaugural Presidents X11 versus an Indigenous All-Stars Match featuring an exciting 11 aside format.

July 29 sees the start of the Australian Championships preceded by the official opening ceremony.

The Australian Darts Championships is in its 38th year , representative teams from all over Australia will compete for team and individual honours.

At stake is a place in the Australian Team that will compete at the World Darts Federation World Cup to be held in Japan in October. Australia is the long-standing Asia-Pacific Champions dominating the region for many years.

“Townsville Enterprise is thrilled to assist in bringing the National Darts Championship of Australia to Townsville through funding supplied by the Townsville North Queensland Bid Fund,” Tourism & Events Director Bridget Woods said”

“It’s anticipated that this event will inject an estimated $963,840 into the Townsville North Queensland economy with an expected 480 people attending over eight days”.

“Given the significant contribution that events provide the local economy and their ability to have direct and positive impacts on visitation, Townsville Enterprise considers events as one of the regions greatest tourism assets”.
